Teaching Coordinator (at the rank of Executive Officer) in the Journalism and Media Studies Centre (Ref.: 504483) (to commence on August 2, 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability)
Applicants should possess a Master's Degree or above, with at least 2 years solid work experience in University-level teaching, web-content creation, journalism, podcasting and/or another media-related capacity. The ideal candidate would be a highly motivated self-starter, fluent and conversant on current events, a vociferous and enthusiastic daily consumer of news on all platforms, a stickler for the highest journalism standards like accuracy and objectivity, and possessing demonstrated ability to be a coach and mentor to journalism students with various levels of experience. Since this job entails writing and assisting students to improve their newswriting skills, applicants must have a native or near-native command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) while not required is a definite plus. One of the courses involves podcasting, so candidates with experience creating original podcasts and familiarity with digital audio technology will be highly favoured. We are also looking for applicants who can assist with proposing and innovating new classes and new teaching methods.
The appointee will be responsible for overseeing multi-media content for the Centre's website and its various social media accounts supporting the communications initiatives of the Department Head and programme directors, and handling outside media queries and faculty interview requests. They will also manage the Department's sponsored events, like conferences, workshops and symposia, and may be called upon to manage freelance employees, including student interns and perform other duties as assigned.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.
