Teaching Assistant in the Journalism and Media Studies Centre (Ref.: 503924) (to commence on August 16, 2021 or thereafter, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability)
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or above in Journalism or other communications or media-related discipline, and have a strong and demonstrated interest in journalism and media. They should have an excellent command of written and spoken English, and be able to comment and edit the written work of others. Knowledge of Chinese or another Asian language is desirable, but not mandatory. Applicants should also possess requisite computer skills (i.e. Excel, Word and CMS). Knowledge of web graphics, web design and social media would be an advantage. They should also be mature, organized, attentive to details and have a strong sense of responsibility.
As the Teaching Assistant will be working on an existing course that explores the role of the journalist in popular culture, strong preference will be given to applicants with some knowledge of, and a deep appreciation for, the craft of journalism -- its history, evolution, its importance to society, and the ethical dilemmas and current challenges facing the profession. Applicants must also show some knowledge, or interest in, popular culture in Asia or the West, including, for example, comic books, films, literature and contemporary fiction and nonfiction books by and about journalists.
The appointee will be responsible for providing teaching assistance on a Common Core Course and courses related to Reporting and Writing. He/she will also conduct tutorials and be responsible for developing and designing innovative teaching methods for tutorials, undertaking teaching-related duties, interacting with students, and occasional research projects when necessary.
