Software Engineer (at the rank of IT Officer) in the Faculty of Arts (Ref.: 504273) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability)
The Arts Technology Laboratory (@Lab) in the Faculty of Arts is looking for a Software Engineer with a broad set of skills as well as the desire and interest to quickly learn new technologies. @Lab is responsible for supporting digital humanities research projects in the Faculty of Arts. As such, we use a variety of different technologies depending on the type of project being realized. We are seeking a candidate with a deep understanding of computer science fundamentals and the ability to come up to speed quickly on new technologies.
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline or 2 to 3 years of related work experience. They will have demonstrated experience in one or two areas, and the enthusiasm and drive to familiarize themselves with any others. A public Github profile (or similar) with some examples of your work is a big plus.
Desirable areas of expertise include:
  • Web development – Python, Django, React, Javascript
  • Data Analysis, Machine Learning and AI – Python, PyTorch
  • Databases – PostgreSQL, Amazon DynamoDB, Elasticsearch
  • Mobile App Development – iOS and Android. Cross-Platform development with React Native. Experience developing native apps for either platform is also desirable (Java / Kotlin for Android or Swift / Objective-C for iOS)
  • System Administration – proficient with Linux command line, Bash shell scripting, standard *nix utilities such as grep, awk, sed
  • Cloud Deployment – familiar with cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and / or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Windows Development – C++ / C# and experience with a framework like WinForms, WPF, or UWP
  • Virtual Reality
  • Augmented Reality
