Position: Senior R&D Manager – Metal Working
Department: Technical – R&D
Report to: VP of R&D
Subordinate: R&D Project Engineers
(Forming/Neat Cutting, WM Cutting Fluids, Quenching, Mining, Corrosion Preventives)
Location: Shanghai

  • Serve as expert in responsible product portfolio; manage the day-to-day operation of R&D team.
  • Manage all R&D aspects of projects for product development, product localization and product improvements in a timely manner
  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the R&D team at the related location
  • Ensure compliance with company quality systems
  • Responsible for change of Bill of Material
  • Organize timely pre-production blending and batch adjustments
  • Approve new raw materials and new raw material deliveries
  • Ensure timely availability of raw materials for trials and initial batches in cooperation with Purchasing and Logistic
  • Update and issue QA procedures related to R&D
  • Ensure availability of MSDS, RoHS certificates, and formulation disclosures
  • R&D projects budget responsibility
  • Support Sales, Product Management and Application Engineering in customer meetings
  • Participation in technical supplier meeting
  • Evaluate, select and implement new R&D test method and test equipment and communicates requirements to Purchasing accordingly
  • Provide technical training to subordinates and other departments
  • Provide technical training to customers
  • Communicate closely with related QC/TS Manager
  • Advise QC/TS Manager in cases of on out-of-spec products and raw materials
  • Responsible for work-off of slow-moving raw materials
  • Advise production in working-off of slow-moving raw materials and products as well as out-of-spec production batches
  • Depending on workload and experience may perform the same function as R&D Project Manager
  • Ensure the timely progress of all related R&D projects including reporting
  • Responsible for complaint handling within the related R&D team
  • Maintain close communication with all China labs and communicates with R&D teams at sister companies
  • Responsible for EHS of the respective R&D lab

  • At least master's degree in Chemistry, doctoral degree preferred
  • More than 5 years working experience in related lubricant area, and experience in petrochemistry or lubricants
  • Experience in managerial function as team or group leader
  • Excellent communication skills, fluent English (oral & written)
  • Self-motivated and determined personality
  • Team spirit, Strong cross-department thinking and communication
  • In-depth understanding of Management systems e.g. TS16949, ISO 9001, ISO14001, OHSAS 18001
  • Experienced in international test methods and standards, APQP, MSA, PPAP, and FMEA
  • Skilled in PC operation (Microsoft office)

  • Internal: QC, Product Manager, Production, Application Engineering, Logistics
  • External: Lab equipment suppliers, additive suppliers, customers
