General SummaryWe have an opportunity in our Global Data Center Operations team for an intelligent and motivated Senior IT Data Center Engineer who is enthusiastic about data center deployment and site reliability/management. As a member of our team you will be managing existing and new Qualcomm data center/MDF/IDF rooms in China. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of our data center/MDF/IDF rooms and assume a critical role in maintaining the overall up- time, performance, and capacity. Your responsibilities will include: site management, Moves/Adds/Changes of systems within the site. Installations, configurations of server/networking/storage equipment in preparation of administrators work. You will also work with our current Taiwan data center lead and with San Diego teams for site management/including cabling and site growth management going forward. . Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
. Rack and install a large inventory of servers, storage, networking gear, data center gear and serial consoles in our production environment
. Perform initial configuration and provision for deployment: servers, network gear and various infrastructure related equipment (Console/ILO) configurations for sys-admins
. Perform stringent site management and planning for production deployments and growth
. Troubleshoot and remedy hardware issues, and provide a detailed report to management/administrators
. Manage local vendors for procurement/installations/remediation
. Manage RMA/EOL/Disposal processes with various sources
. Maintain an up-to-date inventory list of all hardware equipment for locations
. Help with co-location capacity and growth planning as well as rack and server layouts with corporate tools
. Implement and follow best-practice methodology for maintaining a datacenter/co-location environment for power/cooling/cabling
. Track datacenter/co-location related issues and tasks via our ticketing system
. Participate in a 24x7x365 on-call support rotation
. Available for travel as needed
. Working independently with little supervision.

. Using verbal and written communication skills to convey information that may be complex to others who may have limited knowledge of the subject in question. Role may require basic negotiation and influence, cooperation, tact, and diplomacy, etc.
. Having a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is consulted by senior leadership to provide input on key decisions).
. Using deductive and inductive problem solving multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem often information is missing or incomplete intermediate data analysis/interpretation skills may be required.
. Exercising substantial creativity to innovate new processes, procedures, or work products within guidelines or to achieve established objectives.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
. Communicates with project lead and internal teams via email and direct conversation to overcome obstacles and resolve any problems.
. Troubleshoots and debugs issues with networks, systems, and/or applications by completing complex root cause analyses, and escalates issues both internally and externally as needed.
. Monitors and analyzes overall availability and performance of computer operating systems and/or software applications to ensure customers can access necessary systems and/or applications, and looks for trends and makes recommendations for improvement.
. Participates in project review sessions to communicate project status and discuss complex issues.
. Serves as a technical lead on a feature or system, assigns work to a small project team, and works on more advanced tasks to complete a project.
. Identifies technical issues that affect a project or other areas of an overall system and synthes issues into an appropriate document for discussion with the appropriate audience (e.g., project lead, other team leads).
. Presents system solution or other technically complex information within and outside of project team.
. Works directly with Business Unit Management to ensure new systems and/or applications operate according to user requirement specifications.
. Mentors other team members to disseminate knowledge about subject matter expertise and latest IT solutions.
. Helps team members to determine which work tasks are most important, manages distractions, and deals with setbacks in a timely manner
. Encourages team members to further develop their skills and knowledge by directing team members to appropriate resources.
. Leads technical discussions to ensure the right path is followed to project completion.
. Actively manages team project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables for a single project.
. Identifies resources, delegates work, and reviews the work of team members in order to address changing timelines or priorities.
. Networks with colleagues outside of the system function to gain insight, ideas, and connections.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 5 years experience working in enterprise scale data centers/computer rooms including:
-Data center best practices including cabling, power balancing, cooling, inventory tracking, and more
-Experience in performing hardware troubleshooting in a large scale server/storage/networking environment
-Hands-on and certified professional experienced with Windows, Unix and IP networking
-Basic system administration skills for servers, storage, and networking devices
-Ability to lift 50 lbs(22KG) safely and reliably on a day-to-day basis
-Ability to travel occasionally to our other locations around the country (if needed)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
5 + years experience working in enterprise scale data centers/computer rooms including:
-Experience working in Co-location facilities
-Data center best practices including cabling, power balancing, cooling, inventory tracking, and more
Experience in performing hardware troubleshooting in a large-scale server/storage/networking environment
Over 5 years Hands-on and certified professional experienced with Windows, UNIX/LINUX and IP networking
Over 5 years proven system administration skills for servers, storage, and networking devices including:
-Proven experience using data center management tools
-Proven track record for working alone, or remotely with minimal supervision
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, as well as, strong interpersonal skills at all levels or the organization
-Vendor management experience.
-Meticulous attention to detail and strong organization skills
-Take pride in keeping a clean and tidy work environment within the data center/co-location
-Self-motivated and able to work alone efficiently and without close supervision
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as, strong interpersonal skills
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
BA/BS Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience) IT Certifications such as A+, Server+, Network+, ITIL or similar a plus CCNA, or equivalent Electrical/Mechanical experience or certification. *LI-SRC
