Senior Digital IP Design Engineer
Business Line Description
MCU/MPU Engineering Digital IP team defines and develops components for a wide range of products, including automotive microprocessors, application processors, microcontrollers, and networking. The Austin Digital IP team develops components for DDR, Ethernet, high-speed serial links, accelerators, cores, and caches.
Job Summary:

  • Receive and review architecture requirements documents and change requests for new and existing IPs.

  • Develop IP microarchitecture requirements documents meeting architecture requirements and work with stakeholders (architecture, verification, validation) to sign off on microarchitecture.

  • Produce planning assessment for IP development, including need for special training, resources, and delivery dates meeting milestone requirements

  • Develop and deliver detailed design technical specifications covering features and programming model, microarchitecture (state machines, design assumptions, error conditions), and integration requirements (interface specifications, timing exceptions, special constructs used)

  • Develop IP, meeting requirements for quality and performance, using Verilog and System Verilog RTL, and vendor and internal checking tools.

  • Work closely with local and remote verification teams to develop verification plans, write assertions, debug failures, and complete 100% code and functional coverage.

  • Collaborate with verification team to provide expert support to subsystem, SoC, validation, documentation and applications engineering teams.

  • Proving design meets all requirements and ensuring zero defects escape to silicon.

  • Meeting committed schedules without compromising quality

Cross functional aspects:

  • Definition reviews with architecture teams and verification

  • Planning with verification engineers, design manager, and project manager

  • Support for and feedback from local customers on IP, subsystem and SoC verification teams, emulation and silicon validation teams

  • Support for applications engineers and end-customers to replicate and root cause field failures, and verify workarounds.

  • Collaborate with local and global design and tools development teams in developing improved methods of design

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum BSEE/BSCE/BSCS + 5 years or MSEE/MSCE/MSCS + 3 years in IP or SoC design

  • Expert knowledge of Verilog RTL development from microarchitecture to synthesis required

  • Knowledge of PCI Express or serial Ethernet (SGMII, USXGMII, 10GBase-KR) strongly desired

  • Knowledge of Synopsys simulation, RTL checking, and synthesis tools strongly desired

  • Knowledge of scripting, such as Perl or Python, strongly desired

  • Knowledge of functional safety, including ISO26262 a plus

  • Knowledge of CPU or cache architecture a plus

  • Knowledge of formal verification techniques a plus
