Position Overview
The Scrum Master is responsible for driving the productive efforts of one or more agile teams through facilitating continuous improvement, removing impediments and guiding the team through commitments using agile/lean & scrum techniques, principles, and values.  The Scrum Master is also part of a larger agile practice and agile delivery service in the PCS organization.
  • Applies agile principles, values, and techniques by fostering deeper understanding of agile roles and responsibilities within the team
  • Monitors team activities and guides team towards meeting commitments
  • Shields the team from external interferences that can jeopardize iteration goals
  • Ensures the team commits to definition of done at each required level
  • Supports the team during appropriate team ceremonies
  • Helps the team define working agreements that lead to successful delivery of high-quality working software
  • Accountable for continuously improved team, self-organization and high performance
  • Demonstrates strong organizational and influencing skills as a servant leader

  • Works across several teams and with leadership to ensure practice health and consistency aligns with organizational goals
  • Assists teams in maintaining data integrity, completeness and accuracy in tools for work tracking and reporting, used to efficiently complete tasks 
  • Ensures effective and efficient meetings
  • Ensures team understands and commits to specific iteration goals and follows through accordingly
  • Coaches the team to effectively meet commitments
  • Guides the definition of complete and actionable backlog items with clear acceptance criteria and quality assurance
  • Appropriately accessible to team members to actively support team activities
  • Promotes collective ownership of backlog item completion and iteration goals

  • Communicates clearly to engage and energize the team and the organization around the agile mindset
  • Escalates impediments/exceptions for effective resolution, reacts to problems quickly to secure team deliverables
  • Keeps team members engaged, involved and informed
  • Facilitates discussion of team conflicts toward resolution through examination of alternative approaches 
  • Promotes knowledge sharing, team-work and collaboration and the development of T-shaped team members
  • Maintains a strong and aligned relationship with the team’s product owner, obtaining required information for team success

  • Provides guidance to the organization around best practices and leads strategic initiatives for adoption of best practices
  • Encourages teams to set high quality standards and promotes technical excellence across the team
  • Identifies opportunities & time for the team to improve overall quality of their product and deliverables
  • Builds and applies useful metrics to support team and product owner decisions
  • Ensure new code conforms to established coding standards and meets design specification. 
  • Ensure new code, feature or software product meets performance goals/metrics

  • Promotes continuous improvement within the team, consistently tracking and following up on retrospective items
  • Measures and reports on team improvements based on process integration of iteration kaizens
  • Proactively coaches the team and fellow scrum masters as required
  • Proactively grows skills, knowledge and mastery of agile methodologies
  • Promotes experimentation with disciplined learning
  • Works with data analytics to gain insight into team performance

  • Provides thought leadership in the area of agility for their team(s)
  • Develops teams capabilities in solving problems together
  • Leads by example to foster and maintain high team performance 
  • Stresses the importance of meeting realistic team commitments
  • Develops and maintains trust within the team
  • Mentor and provide direction to less experienced software engineers regarding company development processes and product architecture, at senior levels. 

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline or Computer Science or related field
  • 2 + years of experience delivering highly scalable and robust systems, complex technical products or services in a fast-paced environment using Agile and lean techniques and methodologies 
  • 2 + years of experience in a software industry role (engineer, designer, QA, etc)
  • Strong technical background and experiences with Web Services
  • Detailed driven and have excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, POs, PMs, designers, and all leadership levels.
  • Passionate practitioner of Agile Practice & Lean Product Development
  • Zeal for team performance and practice excellence
  • Professionalism in communication and excellent facilitation skills
  • Proven ability to prioritize, multitask, and handle complex issues and relationships
  • Outstanding relationship-building, and influencing skills
  • Ability to leverage technical tools to scale programs and solutions

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a business or technology discipline or related field
  • Solid knowledge of system design & data analytics
