Job Description



Position: Eye Care Assistant
Rank: Patient Care Assistant II
Work Location : New Territories East Cluster
Pay: HK$17,888 - HK$22,357 per month (see Remarks 1, 4)
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Assist health care professionals to perform ophthalmic clinical and investigative procedures in consultation room/treatment room/operating room of day surgery centre
  2. Perform general and ophthalmic investigations, such as blood pressure taking, blood sugar test, instillation of eye drops, measurement of intra-ocular pressure, computer assisted tomography and photography, ophthalmic imaging, visual acuity test, autorefraction, specular microscopy and visual field test, etc
  3. Perform daily disinfection, care and maintenance of medical equipment and ensure ophthalmic instruments, equipment and physical work environment are in good condition
  4. Support daily operation and perform direct or indirect patient care related duties under guidelines and/or supervision, such as operation listing, coordination work of patient flow, patient education, health promotion activities, handling of patient/public enquiries, support to clinical audit/research, etc
  5. Assist in inventory keeping of medical consumables and equipment
  6. Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Entry Requirements:
  1. Completed F.5/ S.5 or equivalent with
  1. 5 subjects passed in HKCEE including English Language (Syllabus B) and Chinese Language, or equivalent OR
  2. 5 subjects in HKDSE attaining the level specified below:

- Level 2 in English Language and Chinese Language AND
- Level 2 in New Senior Secondary subjects / &ldquoAttained in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of 2 subjects under this category) / Grade E in Other Language subjectsor equivalent
  1. Completed Corporate Patient Care Assistant (Eye Care Assistant) Training Program organized by HAHO (see Remark 4
  2. Good command of English and Chinese, written and spoken.


Preferred attributes
  1. Holder of Health Care Assistant or Care-related Support Worker (CRSW) certificate
  2. Possess relevant working experience in health care setting
  3. Proficiency in common computer software, including MS office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and Chinese word processing
  4. Good interpersonal and communication/presentation skills
  5. Self-motivated, willing to learn and able to work independently.
  6. Working experience in Ophthalmic service or clinical areas.

Remarks:
For Serving HA Staff
  1. The selected candidate will be offered either contract or fixed term appointment for 1-3 years depending on his/her existing employment terms. The offer of salary for serving employees upon changes in appointment will be determined based on the remuneration package / employment terms of the staff concerned and prevailing policies.

For External Applicants
  1. Appointment will be on contract terms for 1-3 years. 5% of total basic salary as end-of-contract gratuity may be offered upon completion of contract with satisfactory performance.
  2. Retiring / retired HA staff who wish to continue working for HA after their normal retirement may also apply. If selected, the terms and conditions of employment will be offered in accordance with prevailing policies of the Retired and Rejoin Mechanism of HA.

For All Applicants
  1. Applicants who do not meet entry requirement (2), if find suitable, will be employed to undergo at least 6 months on-the-job training including the Corporate Patient Care Assistant (Eye Care Assistant) Training Program organized by HAHO. During the training period, they will be appointed as Patient Care Assistant II at a monthly salary of $17,888. After the training period of at least 6 months and passing the end of training assessment on skills and performance, their monthly salary will be adjusted to $19,676. Employment may be terminated if the selected applicant cannot pass the assessment after training.
  2. Required to work shifts and irregular hours, during typhoons, rainstorms and other emergencies.
  3. Required to wear uniform, surgical respirator and other personal protective devices if needed.
  4. May be required to work in another work location to meet service needs of the HA.
  5. The renewal/extension of appointment will be subject to service needs and job performance.
