Job Description

Job Description :
Position Description: Lenovo’s Data Center Group is currently seeking a dynamic, creative, and inquisitive engineer with deep technical and organizational skills to join our new Design Cost Optimization team within Server Development. In this exciting position you will be part of an innovative group responsible for enhancing and accelerating the cost competitiveness of our server, storage, and networking portfolio, a critical factor in Lenovo DCG’s future success. Cost optimization is the art and science of designing products that achieve the customer-valued marketing requirements at the lowest possible manufactured cost – it’s all about bang for the buck! In the ultra-competitive datacenter business, bids are won and lost by the thinnest of margins - having a fully optimized design can give the company an edge that is difficult to overcome. Cost optimization is multi-faceted, balancing electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, thermal and power engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain influences. The best solution is rarely achieved with one bold stroke, but with a hard-fought series of incremental improvements and adjustments. Position Requirements: The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of system design experience, have considerable knowledge of a particular engineering discipline, but also be knowledgeable in other technical fields. They’ll be ever curious about how to find better ways to accomplish standard tasks, have strong investigative and analytical senses, and prone to seeking out new ways to accomplish existing product functions. He or she will thrive leading others in a multi-geography, multi-cultural environment, understand the give and take of working in a large, multi-discipline organization, and revel in the opportunity to be a part of integrating design-for-cost discipline into the development culture. Last but not least, they’ll be able to help other engineers cost optimize their designs by working one-on-one, focusing on the collaborative progress without emphasizing their own contributions. Responsibilities  Deliver a cost optimized DCG system portfolio that meets or exceeds the business objectives.  Work with system lead architects to establish the proper product cost posture at initial conception.  Give development and business executives actionable intelligence and insight on design cost.  Together with other cost-focused team members, create and institutionalize a vibrant and productive cost BMS.  Investigate and review Lenovo and competitor system designs, low-level subsystem designs, and cost estimate analyses.  Work hand- in-hand with development engineers and the supply chain to identify potential cost-saving ideas.  Use cost by function techniques to provide clarity as to why one design costs more than another.  Team with the Cost Engineering group to enhance their cost estimating abilities and techniques.  Team with the Transformation group to enhance the cost management tools and dashboards. Education and Experience  At least 10 years of experience working in computer or server development.  Bachelor of Science level education in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Technical Skills  Broad system-level engineering design capabilities.  Deep knowledge of either electrical or mechanical engineering and their application to datacenter system design.  Familiarity with current Intel and AMD roadmaps.  Familiarity with datacenter infrastructure, including rack organization, power, cooling, and networking.  Familiarity with supply chain methods and operations, including procurement and manufacturing.  Possess strong organizational, business, and financial acumen.  Strong analytical and creative problem-solving capability.  Well- versed in Microsoft enterprise applications, including Office and Teams.  Familiar with Agile process tools, such as JIRA and Confluence.  Project management skills Teaming and Communications  Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation.  Good interpersonal and influencing skills  Executive presence and command skills to interface to Lenovo executives.  Ability to work effectively cross-functionally, cross- culturally, and across multiple time zones.  Not afraid of conflict, and able to build consensus through direct interaction and compromise.  Bring established relationships across Lenovo DCG to the role.  English language proficiency is preferred, and Chinese language capability is required.
