Job Description

What you’ll be doing...

Continuous improvement efforts drive our business and you will work with customer technical teams to provide solutions for customers' internetworking communications requirements. You will be performing routed/switched network design activity for our large enterprise customer data networks. As the primary interface to customers in support of their WAN/LAN enterprise projects, you will make us better by creating great enterprise customer data networks.

  • Investigating, designing, planning, and implementing communications networks.
  • Partnering with customer teams to develop solutions that support their requirements.
  • Preparing network schematics to define and illustrate network design solutions.
  • Creating hardware and software configuration upgrades.
  • Providing IP addressing and routing strategies.
  • Preparing detailed work orders for technicians.

Tier 2 Operations teams’ scope of services is focused on the quality and timely isolation and resolution of simple and complex incidents affecting Global Managed Services Customer in order to minimize the impact, duration, and recurrence of service issues. The Tier 2 Operations teams are also responsible for change request’s evaluation and deployment. The Tier 2 areas of expertise are: DATA, VOICE, SECURITY and APPLICATION. Tier 2 shall conform to and adopt any new process steps and efficiencies implemented that may impact, change or reduce steps required to complete any tasks and functions associated with the service assurance functions and processes.

All Tier 2 Engineer shall:

  • Work with the Customer, internal Verizon groups, external vendors, external carriers and Verizon’s suppliers to provide technical support of Customer incidents for Verizon’s Customers.
  • Work on Incident tickets using Verizon’s ticketing system.
  • Work on Change Request tickets using Verizon’s change request system.
  • Provide support for global operation environment working on 24x7 and/or 24x5 shifts (on-call rotation during weekends are required when working 24x5 shifts)
  • Provide Tier 2 technical support, training and direction to lower level technicians (Tier1, LTEs, and Tier2).
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of experience performing Tier 2 function in an operations environment.
  • Troubleshoot, isolate and restore customer services.
  • Bachelors or foreign equivalent in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science preferred.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to work in a team environment.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA) certification.
  • Experience with Cisco LAN switching, WAAS, Juniper routing and internal wireless products.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience with contemporary technologies including MPLS, TCP/IP, IPSec, BGP, QoS, IP Telephony, Multicast, and/or other similar tools.
  • Technical knowledge and CCNP experience.
  • Designed and implemented large scale customer networks.
  • DATA Network Tier 2:
    • Be responsible for Network troubleshooting and configuring routers and switches (LAN/WAN/MAN/Wireless environment).
    • Have an advanced understanding of the OSI model, including TCP/IP, client/server designs, routing protocols (including but not limited to OSPF, EIGRP, BGP)
    • Have an advanced understanding of WAN technologies (including but not limited to Internet, MPLS, SDWAN, VNS, private lines, WAN accelerators, VPN technologies)
    • Have advanced understanding of LAN technologies (including but not limited to FDDI, Ethernet, Token Ring, Wireless, VLANs, NAT, ACLs, QoS, Load Balancer, NTP servers)
    • Have advanced knowledge supporting products from vendors like Cisco, Aruba, Riverbed, Juniper, Adtran, BlueCoat and HP)
    • Be familiar with principles, theories, concepts and technologies as well as applied knowledge of established procedures, policies and practices of Network Security.
    • Possess a vendor certification of Professional level at a minimum (i.e. Cisco, Juniper). ITIL foundation certification or knowledge is desirable.
    • Scripting knowledge is plus.
